Parow Station Arcade
The Parow Station Arcade Upgrade project is a pedestrian corridor upgrade & urban regeneration project, creating precinct identity and charcter. The project is an important initiative within the Voortrekker Road Corridor (VRC) Integration Zone and Development Plan. Its primary goal is to transform Parow Arcade, a priority Local Area (PLA), into a safer and more comfortable space for pedestrians.
Situated at the crossroads of the VRC, the Parow Station area serves as a crucial public transport junction point, offering commuters access to major commercial and industrial hubs. This project was initiated to address the increasing need for enhanced urban infrastructure and pedestrian safety in this busy and bustling locality.
The project is designed with the following key ideas in mind: congestion alleviation, social issue solutions, and linking to housing developments.
Key features of the design include: quality landscape upgrades, traffic conflict resolution, infrastructure improvement, and informal trader solutions. Quality Landscape Upgrades: Implementing upgrades to both hard and soft landscaping along Station Street and connecting to social housing developments. Traffic Conflict Resolution: Resolving existing traffic and pedestrian conflicts at intersections. Infrastructure Improvement: Upgrading public infrastructure, including public ablution facilities, lighting, manholes, and stormwater management. Informal Trader Solutions: Addressing informal trader congestion and conflicts with pedestrian movement.
The uniqueness of this project lies in its creative use of paving design. It not only communicates subliminal information guiding the use of public open space but also projects a distinctive character for Parow. This innovative approach sets the Parow Station Arcade Upgrade apart, making it an exciting and transformative urban regeneration project.
